The Benefit of the Doubt
The Benefit of the Doubt
Without a doubt you have probably heard this phrase before. We use it whenever we hope to assign blame to something other than whatever could be blamed for whatever faux pas has occurred. An easy example would be the kids who stayed out all night. They come home in the morning and try to convince their parents they were not out robbing liquor stores and running from cops, saying they fell asleep at the drive-in movie.
You expect us to believe that? That is a crazy excuse. You're grounded!
Is it though? The Everly Brothers sang a song about it. If that is what really happened when the kid went to Wake Up Little Susie, then maybe Mom and Pop should give her the benefit of the doubt. Because, what if that is the truth? What do you do with that? No rules against getting bored and falling asleep.
Maybe have a soda with some caffeine in it next time.
The benefit of doubt goes far back in our history. It is basically giving somebody a break, saying, "Yeah, okay. If that's what you're going with - I am going to let it slide."
It is generally an honorary reprieve from an authority figure. Sometimes a cop will pull you over for speeding and lets you off with a warning after hearing your stupid excuse about your cat being late for a veterinary appointment. Or you come home with a bunch of stinky luggage at the airport and when the customs agent gets a whiff of your laundry, they decide not to look in your bag and just wave you through.
The ultimate in forgiveness was probably when Jesus was crucified and spoke to the heavens above, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they are doing." Luke 23:34
The two criminals hanging beside him might have shaken their heads in disbelief. If I were one of them, I would have asked, "Jesus Christ, dude, are you being serious right now?" Rembis 75:8 and learned a lesson about humility just a little too late for my own good.
The benefit of the doubt can be a good thing. It lets us move past an awkward moment to go on with our lives. But you will always wonder about what really happened.
There is a ton of speculation about your favorite president's recent dinner with Kanye West and friends right now. Seems that Ye, as Kanye West has decided to call himself now, has gone totally dark and become a full-fledged hardcore Christian antisemite. He even made friends with infamous white nationalist holocaust denier Nick Fuentes, and that is who he brought as his plus one to Mar-a-Lago to dine with his pal Donald J. Trump.
Kanye and Donye's relationship goes back over a decade, when Trump first said something negative about West's rude behavior toward Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Whatever happened between them after that, only those two know for sure, because by 2014, when West married Kim Kardashian, Trump then wished them great success and said he considered them friends. Then, when Trump was elected president, West paid him a personal visit at Trump Tower in New York.
This meeting had a lot of eyes on it as Trump was new to the presidency and meeting with West seemed odd. It was a private meeting between two friends and when pressed for what they spoke about, the president said, "We talked about life."
So what?
Exactly. Don't judge. Rich people know rich people and even old guys have young friends. I play cards with guys half my age. We have lots of innocent fun, tell "your mom" and "that's what she said" jokes (not enough for my taste - we could do so much more), and don't cause trouble for anybody.
But the public backlash for Trump has gone off the rails. People are condemning him from the left and right. Some election deniers may even be calling for his resignation. I am no fanboy of his, by any means, but Trump did not know who he was meeting with.
Time and again, Trump has claimed that he is neither a racist nor a bigot. This has been heavily debated. His actions have shown that he does indeed accept people of different races, creeds, and colors, and has said many times "I love everybody." He probably thinks that he does, even when he instructs supporters to knock the crap out of people who might toss vegetables at him.
His son in law, Jared Kushner, is a Jew. His great friend, dictator Kim Jong-un, is Korean. His other great friend, the monster Vladimir Putin, is responsible not only for recent massacres in Ukraine, but past atrocities in Syria, and is involved with ongoing battles in Central African Republic.
So, I would call him tolerant, and much more accepting than others. While not particularly empathetic, he is in fact, so tolerant, that he apparently does not see race at all. I think he may not truly comprehend it as the rest of the world does. He may consider racism not as a dangerous and discriminatory practice, but as a viewpoint, an opinion, where he thinks, to each his own, and therefore, does not see biased hatred to be a big deal.
He may view the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as an argument between "very fine people, on both sides," just like in Charlottesville. To him, calling a place a Shithole Nation is a referral to their impoverished state and poor infrastructure, having nothing to do with the heritage of people who live there.
When it comes to his friend, rapper and entrepreneur Kanye West, he may think Why are they calling him racist now? How can Kanye be racist? He is a black guy. That is fake news! So, he does not believe the news. Whatever they said about Kanye must be a lie. When he was introduced to Nick Fuentes, he may have thought Fuentes? That's Mexican, right? He doesn't look Mexican. Maybe he is Cuban like Marco Rubio or Mark Cuban.
With fake news on his mind, his opinion of Kanye would have been one of support, because he knows how it is when the press has it in for you. Of course, Kanye and friends would be welcomed to dine with open arms. Anyone who will pay him attention gets to pull up a chair, because in Trump's house, the focus will be on him.
Trump will dominate the conversation no matter what and may not remember any of it. In a deposition where he claimed to have a superior memory, he could not recall most of the names of people who had anything to do with Trump University, and they were his closest allies. This may not have been a lie. Instead, it could have been entirely true because he cared so little about learning the names of the people who worked for him.
If he was not paying close attention when Kanye West started calling himself Ye, he may have offered his two cents on the subject based on what he heard on the fake news. I don't know why they keep calling you that, why they won't use your whole name. The media is out of control. You can't trust them.
In the days after the dinner Trump was severely harangued for giving a literal seat at his table to a troupe of neo-Nazis. His answer was that he did not know who Nick Fuentes was. Why would he? I never heard of him before, either.
When a man who claims to know everything says he doesn't know something it must be the truth.
This is why I give Donald Trump the benefit of the doubt.
I can only imagine how the after-dinner texts may have played out.
Kanye - Yo Donye, thank u 4 supper. Awesome chocolate cake!!!!!!
Trump - My pleasure. Always love to covfefe with you and your friends.
Kanye - One thing I gotta say tho - Not cool that joke about my ex. You know she is the mother of my children.
Trump - That's what she said.
Kanye - Aight! We kool. Love ya man.
Trump - Peace out, bro.
But that is not the end of the story. This meeting was only one of the recent public appearances for Kanye West and Nick Fuentes who are touring the country as the new dynamic duo of haters we love to hate.
They showed up in Austin to have a bizarre chat with your favorite man of the airwaves, InfoWars host Alex Jones. The three-hour interview started out with Kanye dressed in a heavy jacket, gloves, and a mask that completely covered his head. It was either really cold in the studio, or he was waiting for a ski lift to open up.
There are no ski lifts in Austin, Mike. You should know, you lived there.
I told you it was bizarre. I am not exaggerating. You decide if you want to watch it, but if not, you can read some highlights and find out how much he hates Jews and loves Hitler. It is disgusting. I tuned in for about the first five minutes and watched the hooded figure rant about blaming pornography for the existence of pedophilia, while keeping his left hand on a bible and telling everyone to come to Jesus. I scrolled through and watched a few more random segments and heard some truly disturbing antisemitism from all of the guests, with Alex Jones taking a stance as moderator and champion of the first amendment. That was enough for me. Seemed like a good time to invoke Luke 23:34 and call it a day.
People should stop indulging Kanye West. Call him by the name his mother gave him (because that's what she said), not the abbreviated version that he wants, stop giving him a platform to speak on, and not allow him a seat at the table anywhere, not at a restaurant, not at their residence, and not even at a homeless shelter.
Parler did the right thing by refusing to take his money. So should everyone else. Elon Musk shut him down and kicked him off Twitter. He may never shut up but if enough people stop listening to him, he will go away.
This needs to happen with all other racists, holocaust deniers, and white supremacists, too. They need to be shut out, turned down, and disconnected. Because that is what they are asking for - to be locked out of a free society. The conspiracy theories about Judaism and being controlled by bankers is just plain wrong, and with this as the basis of their ideologies, they are dangerous. If they can't be taught, they must be eliminated.
Gee, who does that sound like?
Ironic, isn't it?
We must keep on fighting racism every day until we drill it into everyone's heads that there is no such thing as supremacy. Nobody should be made to feel inferior to anyone else. Those who think they are better than anyone else based on their skin tone, their religion, their sexual preference, or their gender, even if they chose it themselves, are sadly mistaken and must be told so every single time they speak or act out as a hater. If there is any life form that is indeed inferior, they are those who think they are better than the rest, because they are wrong.
But there is one more question that needs to be answered. Why?
Why is Kanye West doing this? What is his end game? What is the goal?
Does he really believe what he is saying? Yes, he apparently does. He has convinced himself that Adolf Hitler was a person to praise and emulate, that Jews are bad, and that Christians are good, but does not embrace the true Christian values of love and acceptance.
So, what is the point, Mike? What is he trying to do?
Wake up little Susies. He is trying to make money. He ripped pages out of the Donald Trump and Alex Jones playbooks and taped them together like a ransom note. Under the guise of running for president, he has joined forces with idiots to rally more idiots to send him money. Alex Jones let him on the show because he knows a meal ticket when he sees one. Kanye went there because he could reach the right audience for his propaganda.
Kanye West's metamorphosis from music mogul to pariah was a slow boil that is now spilling onto the stove. He brainwashed himself into believing lies and is now regurgitating them for the only audience who will pay him to listen. He has targeted the antisemites and holocaust deniers as marks, and will bleed them for whatever cash they are willing to throw his way.
Here is how I see it all playing out. Just like little Susie, who never went to the drive-in to begin with, but spent all night with her boyfriend hopped up on glitter and dancing on the ceiling in a cheap motel, then came home smelling like lobby breakfast buffet, once he finds himself without his name on the ballot, he will turn around, disavow his alliances with the racist morons, and apologize for his bad behavior.
He will make money every step of the way.
I have no doubt.
